METIS FIRST---MANITOBAN SECOND- CANADIAN THIRD..

.FOLKS.....
Not to long ago on the blogs some person's who call themselves metis said they were Canadian first....and somewhere down the road ...metis......that folks tells me these persons have not thought out this matter clearly....they don't know where they belong...or if they even belong to anything...yet shoot out from the hip unthinkingly....any metis worth their salt would never proclaim such a position...if they are metis!!!!!!if Metis people want to be within the metis nation they must change their thinking to a Metis First position...now there is enough words being said to cause one to think that maybe these positions should be aired publicly....where metis folks can rethink who we were...and what we have become!!!!

F.G. metis territory .......april 15 th 2008.....

YO FG, its thinking like that that keeps the Metis from ever getting anywhere. We now live in a COUNTRY called CANADA. The Metis nation is history (like 130 years ago history) Its the 21st century. Its good to have Metis heritage and be proud of what our people did. BUT we live in CANADA and its people like yourself who don't know who or what they are. Clinging to a dream that will never happen. One that has come and gone like the wind on the prarrie.

Soon hopefully they will realize that they are Canadian with a Metis heritage and some knowlege of Metis culture. BUT CANADIAN.

There is no such thing as a "METIS NATION" in the 21st century. Hell, most Metis can't even agree on the definition of who a Metis is, let alone get together to form a Nation.

In spite of Frank's constant message of who he may or may not be in the scope of his world - I am Metis first too! That is who I was at birth - that was what my forefathers told me - and today when someone asks - I say I am Metis. Keep up the battle - we need a strong nation.

Publically and legally renounce your Canadian citizenship. Didn't think you would want to go that far.

Metis people need to understand that its not the 1800's anymore. Its the 21st century. We have a country we have a nationality, and we have a culture. ITS CANADIAN - SURPRISE. Time to wake up. Time to do a reality check.

Please give to me one thing from the historical Metis culture that is relevant in todays Canadian culture that would help our people succeed in the 21st century.

Get with the program like every other people group that ever came to Canada did. These people don't see themselves as "Whatever culure they came from" first, they see themselves as Canadian first with a rich "fill in the blank" heritage.

I totally agree with a mandate to bring our people to a level playing field with other people in Canada, but thats where I draw the line. Once we can compete on a level playing field, then its up to us. To raise us to a level of Nationhood is counter productive to Canada and to our people.
